November has come, bringing along its carpets of leaves and melancholic fogs. I am longing for something warm, soft, with the majestic colors of autumn. Sean ( who in the meanwhile can read my thoughts) has shown up with a bag full of suprises: capes, wraps, neckwarmers, basket hats, clutches, necklaces and broches – an intelligent, versatile and fun loving collection of accesories made of the finest yak yarns and signed by Shokay (a brand we discovered at the last Premium exhibitions). The yak fibers are bought directly from the herders of the montainous Quinghai province and handknitted by a cooperative of women, who are also provided with health care training. For the joy of the feel-cold fashionistas and those who are supporting the companies with social responsibility and human values, Shokay is opening its first point of sales and distribution in Berlin, to the conquer of the German market. The enterprise is in the expert hands of Audrey Heppner, also head of Cozydunes Homefashion, who has immediately embraced the Berlin hybrid thinking approach and brought the two brands under the same roof: the one of a former art gallery in the Fasanenstraße 29. That’s no problem at all, for Audrey. The exclusive seat cushions made in Germany work very well as display stands for the Himalayan knitwear collection. And there would be still place for other products that meets her quality standards…
As usual, we armed ourselves with sixth sense and improvisation and set off looking for a suitable location to shoot these awesome pieces (oh boy, the feeeeeel of them!!!!) in every thinkable combination. Well, we ended up in the “Alter St. Matthäus Kirchhof” the very romantic cemetery where the brothers Grimm rest in peace! How about that for a November mood? To die for!!!È arrivato Novembre con i suoi tappeti di foglie e le sue nebbie malinconiche. “Ci vorrebbe qualcosa di caldo, morbido, con i colori maestosi dell’autunno…”.Sean mi ha letto nel pensiero e si è presentato con una borsa piena di sorprese: mantelle, mantelline, berretti, coppoline, sciarpe, pochette, spille, collane, Insomma, una intera collezione molto versatile, intelligente, divertente, in pregiatissima lana di Yak, firmata Shokay (un marchio che abbiamo scoperto nella scorsa edizione della Premium exhibitions). I filati vengono acquistati direttamente dagli allevatori della regione montuosa di Quinhai, nella Cina occidentale e i capi sono realizzati a mano da cooperative di donne, che, grazie all’impegno dell’azienda, possono beneficiare di un sistema sanitario. Per la gioia dei fashionisti freddolosi, e dei consumatori che premiano politiche aziendali rispettose dell’ambiente e dei valori umani,Shokay inaugura il suo primo punto di distribuzione e vendita centralizzata a Berlino, partendo alla conquista del mercato tedesco. L’impresa è affidata alle mani esperte di Audrey Heppner, già titolare di Cozydunes Homefashion, che ha subito adottato l’ hibrid thinking berlinese, portando i due marchi sotto lo stesso tetto: quello di una ex galleria d’arte della Fasanenstraße. Nessun problema per Audrey! I favolosi cuscini sacco made in Germany sono perfetti anche come espositori dei capi di maglieria provenienti dall’Himalaya. E c’é ancora posto per altri prodotti rientrano nel suo concetto di qualità… In pieno stile Berlinsixsenses, armati di sesto senso e improvvisazione, ci siamo avviati alla ricerca di una location degna della bellezza di questi capi, piacevolissimi al tatto e li abbiamo declinati in tutti i modi possibili e immaginabili. Guardate un po’ dove siamo finiti: nell’ “Alter St. Matthäus Kirchhof, un romantico parco-cimitero dove riposano insieme i fratelli Grimm! È il mood di Novembre, no? Ci piace da morire!
