Berliners do take care of their heads. In the glorious ’20s nobody went out without a hat and hairdressers were open on sundays. In the past few years the city has seen a proliferation of “cut and go” chains, offering a haircut and shampoo without any appointment for the tempting price of 9 euro. But the risks are not to be underestimated. In the best of cases the service is rushed to the point of rudeness. If one is unlucky, it could also happen to bump into a “serial hair killer”. To those who want to get rid of such traumatic experience, we recomend MU, the hair styling studio founded 3 years ago by Manu and Una (ex Vidal Sassoon). Mu is hidden in the backyard of a building in the Linienstrasse, far of indiscreet glances. Evidently they don’t need any publicity, it’s enough the word of mouth.The entrance of the small glazed remise protected by a fringed courtain “I see you, you don’t see me” is very promising: a welcoming fireplace, a long hair carpet and two alligators, in pelouche of course. We have made an appointment for Erica, our special guest, who is coming from a stressfull working day. We are lead downstairs, to the souterrain. The shampoo lasts almost 20 minutes. Then Simon Henn takes over. He radiates the ambiguous beauty of a late renaissance painting and a lot of grace. After listening carefully to Erica’s wishes he suggests to fix her pony and cut her hear a little shorter. His speciality is “painting” i.e. colour highlights done with a paintbrush, a technique that requires a great sense of colour, as it simulates the bleeching effect of the sun on hairwisps. Love for the detail, perfectionism and creativity are also reflected by the interior design, which contributes to a very pleasant stay: columns, raw bricks, antique and design hairdresser armchairs, an old surfboard transformed into a bench. Simon works carefully, almost with devotion. We are hypnotized by the elegant movements of his hands while manipulating comb and scissor, and foremost Erica’s hair. We come out after one and a half hour of pure bliss. Forget about cut and go!I Berlinesi ci tengono ad avere la testa in ordine. Negli anni venti non si usciva mai di casa senza un cappello e i parrucchieri erano aperti anche la domenica. Negli ultimi anni la città ha assistito al proliferare incontrollato di catene “cut and go”, che offrono shampo e taglio a partire da 9 euro, il tutto senza appuntamento. Ma occorre sapere a quali rischi si va incontro. E cioè nel migliore dei casi, una prestazione frettolosa, fino a rasentare la scortesia, con risultati spesso deludenti. Se si è un po’ sfortunati, può pure capitare di finire nelle mani di un c.d. “serial hair killer”. A chi ha subito un trauma del genere e ha perso la fiducia nella categoria, consigliamo di rivolgersi a MU, lo studio di hair styling fondato tre anni fa da Manu e Una, formatisi da Vidal Sassoon. Mu si trova al riparo dagli occhi indiscreti, nel cortile interno di un palazzo della Linienstrasse. È evidente che non hanno bisogno di nessuna pubblicità. Basta il passaparola della clientela. L’ingresso della piccola remise tutta vetrata, protetta da un tessuto a frange “ti vedo non ti vedo” promette bene: ad accoglierci c’è un modernissimo camino e un tappeto a pelo lungo sul quale sono in agguato due alligatori, naturalmente in pelouche. Abbiamo preso appuntamento per Erica, la nostra inviata speciale che è reduce da una giornata di lavoro piuttosto stressante. Scendiamo di sotto, nel seminterrato. Lo Shampo dura quasi 20 minuti. Poi si passa nelle mani di Simon che possiede la bellezza ambigua di un dipinto tardo rinascimentale e molto garbo. Ascolta attentamente i desideri di Erica e suggerisce di pareggiare il taglio e aggiustare il ciuffo. La sua specialità è il “piantino” ovvero i colpi di luce eseguiti con il pennello, una tecnica in tutto e per tutto simile alla pittura, che richiede un grande senso del colore perché simula l’effetto schiarente del sole su alcune ciocche di capelli. Amore per il dettaglio, perfezionismo e creatività si riflettono anche nel design degli interni. L’ambiente è gradevolissimo: colonne , mattoni a vista, poltrone da parrucchiere di antiquariato e modernariato, una panca ricavata da una vecchia tavola da surf. Simon lavora con attenzione e dedizione. Ci colpisce il garbo e la infinita grazia con cui maneggia il pettine e le forbici, ma soprattutto i capelli di Erica. Usciamo dopo un’ora e mezza di wellness pura. Altro che cut and go!
