Well darlings I received a book from a friend about the artist Georg Grosz one of my Favorite artists who resided in Berlin during it’s hey day!!!!!! and
then all of a sudden there was a restaurant named after the Artist in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district. Since I love to dine and right now Restaurant Grosz-Berlin is considered not only a hot spot but a place to be seen so I thought I had to go !!!!I showed up during fashion week and I thought I was on the catwalk myself !!! everyone showed up to this restaurant!!!!Albeit not only for the food but for the pseudo glamor factor .
This restaurant!!! is a huge and I will say very ultra glam restaurant on the very Haute boulevard Kurfuerstendamm in Berlin‘s Charlottenburg district.The restaurant was the right choice when you wanted to see how the so called Berlin Glam Dine!!!!!!I went with a friend from Hamburg and I was taken aback by the Deco very grandiose with hints of both 19 th century Architecture with 20th Century Art work and details!!!! with hints of Marble here and there and chandeliers to take it over the top !!!!!the place reminded me of New York’s Balthazar !!!So we got a booth table and I must admit this was due to knowing a guy who is friends with the manager since I am not sure I would have gotten such a good table that night!!!seated close to the spiraling staircase was a coat check girl a little cheeky and in a slightly too short skirt really caught my eye but not in the pleasant way!!! but hey I guess this is what they consider glamor here at the joint!!!We finally got a drink of white wine the classic Sancerre and a glass of sparkling white wine and I finally looked around at this restaurant which was like being a little on a filmset!!! it was all a little overwhelming but hey !!!this place wants to offer its guests a little for the eye. I decided on a Flounder Fish and a side order of Sauteed Spinach !!!My Gal pal ordered a Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables!!!The cuisine is what you could call Continental Bistro cuisine!!!My friends Steak was ordered Medium rare and she claimed the steak was good and her vegetables well she did not scream about her side order she claimed it was bland!!!I on the other hand found My Fish very bland, but thank goodness my side dish of sauteed spinach was quite good sauteed the dish was combined with pine nuts and garlic it was light and met my demands.
True the main dish should be the one to get your attention however it didn’t!!! it was slightly bland!!!
Though the place was jam packed and the waiters did try to serve us quickly and were friendly enough
I still was not sure about this place.
Overall my meal was not horrible but nothing to write home about either!!It’s a nice place to see and be seen!!!and I will return to see how Grosz-Berlin develops, maybe it will get better and the uptight bartender will be more relaxed!!!I think the artist Mr.Grosz would have a drink here but considering the types he hung out with in Berlin back in the day he probably would have moved on in the wee hours of Berlin‘s funkier nightlife!!!!
P.S. The place was expensive so plan to spend Roughly 80-110 Euro for two!!!
You also have the chance to go for Lunch so this may be the option for one who does not need the glamor and wants a nice atmosphere.
