The fearful moment has come in Berlin when streets and footpaths are covered by a layer of ice and temperatures have fallen below zero. A look out of the window will be enough to understand that it is no longer possible to leave the house in your regular boots. You need a special kind of footwear. But which one? Ask Sean! “Are there any warm, easy to wear, design boots that you can put on in glamorous occasions (Salonfähig n.d.t. ), oh, and affordable, too?”. Our man showed up the other day with two new models by Sorel, a legendary canadian brand newly relaunched by Columbia Sportswear. With its classic Caribou Boots( this winter, by the way, sold at Colette‘s in a luxury version), Sorel has written an important chapter in the history of footwear. According to Sean, who is just coming back from N.Y., everyone in Brooklyn is now sporting these glorious boots, which combine, tradition, high-tech and design in the battle against the bitterest of cold. Let’s take a closer look to the two items.
The first one,”Mackenzie holiday Slip Tall,” (169,95 euro) is a slip-in boot, more stuctured if compared to the houseshoe-inspired Emu, UGG, or the Moon Boots. The leather uppers are covered with a festive checks plaid in aubergine and purple tones, while the soft fleece lining keeps your feet warm and dry. The “Winter Carnival”(89,95 euro), is a two in one boot : It
consists of a waterproof vulcanised rubber shell, as well as of a removable felt liner with a Sherpa pile cuff. The advantages of this design may be self explaining to all those living in Germany, who are expected to remove their shoes before entering somebody’s house. Consider this: once removed the rubber shell, Sorel boots turn into stylish slippers, thus avoiding the embarassment of exposing your socks to the checking glances of your acquaintances or, worst of all, having to wear someone else’s houseshoes. Berlinsixsenses has intepreted the Sorel boots with a few still life pics that celebrate their admission to the Berlin salons and a couple of ideas for a winter party look. Needless to say Sean, has added a touch of glamour glamour by using silver and golden strings!

Colbacco/fur cap: VintageIl momento più temuto da me e Sean è arrivato: le strade e i marciapiedi di Berlino sono ricoperte da uno strato di neve ghiacciata e le temperature sono scese sotto lo zero. A questo punto, per uscire di casa bisogna munirsi di calzature speciali. “Esiste uno stivale caldo, pratico da indossare, ben disegnato e Salonfähig (n.d.t. Adatto ad entrare in società), ah, dimenticavo e con un prezzo accessibile?” mi sono chiesta. E Sean si è presentato con due nuovi modelli firmati Sorel, il marchio di origine canadese, rilevato dal gruppo Columbia Sportswear. Sorel è passato alla storia con i classici Caribou Boots, quest’anno riproposti da Colette in versione luxury. Sean, appena tornato da N.Y., giura che a Brooklyin non c’è più nessuno che non abbia ai piedi questi gloriosi stivali, che uniscono tecnologia, tradizione e design nella battaglia contro le rigide temperature invernali. I piedi, del resto, sono la porta del raffreddore, quindi tanto vale tenerli caldi. Ma diamo un’occhiata ai due modelli Sorel più nel dettaglio: il primo, “Mackenzie holiday Slip Tall,” è uno stivale slip-in, ma più strutturato rispetto ai “pantofolosi” Emu, UGG e Moon Boots. L’interno é foderato in vello, un materiale che regola la temperatura e impedisce la sudorazione. La tomaia è in cuoio e plaid, con un allegro motivo a quadrettoni color melanzana in diverse gradazioni. Il secondo, “Winter Carnival”, è uno stivale scomponibile in due : un involucro in gomma vulcanizzata con suola antiscivolo e uno stivale interno in feltro riciclato, con risvolto in pile di sherpa. Il vantaggio di questo design, divertente e funzionale è evidente soprattutto qui in Germania, dove è buon costume togliersi le scarpe prima di entrare in casa di qualcuno. Ecco che, rimosso l’involucro esterno, lo stivale di Sorel si trasforma in una impareggiabile pantofola, evitando così l’imbarazzo di esporre i propri calzini agli sguardi scrutatori di conoscenti e sconosciuti o, quel che è peggio, di dover indossare le ciabatte di qualcun’altro. Berlinsixsenses ha interpretato Sorel con alcuni scatti still life, che celebrano l’ingresso di Sorel nei salotti Berlinesi e alcune proproste di party look invernale. Come sempre Sean ha aggiunto un tocco di glamour con i lacci dorati e argentati!
