Berlin is not Manhattan: horizontal lines prevail on vertical ones. Not many places offer a breathtaking view over the city. If skylines don’t make you feel dizzy, if you think the TV tower is too touristy, the Week-end too minimal and the Reichstag’s rooftop restaurant too bureaucratic, then try the Solar , a good compromise between post-modern design and international haute cuisine (or rather say Bürgerliche Küche?). We have tested it with a small group of friends coming from different european cities. Apart from the incredible trip on the glass elevator reminding us of Roald Dahl’s novel, the evening’s highlight was a rosé moquito with strawberry juice. The menu changes every so often and can be consulted online: maybe we were just unlucky on that particular saturday night, but frankly we would have expected something more funky than the Boeuf stroganoff and the Wiener Schnitzel. Finally, after solving our perplexities, we did order: roasted chicken with a colorful vegetable puree on a bed of asparagus – out of season ahi, ahi ahi!, marinated tofu accompanied by a rice salad and pork ribs with (a few) ricotta-spinaches ravioli. Well, we must admit that the quality of the food is higher than the average. But prices are too. No wonder the restaurant attracts a business clientele and a lot of tourists. If you want to meet the Berlin hipsters, you have to go upstairs and sip a cocktail in the panoramic bar, which hosts well known video artists and DJs from all over the world. Non sono molti i locali dai quali si può godere di una una veduta panoramica mozzafiato sulla metropoli. Se amate gli skyline e non soffrite di vertigini, se la torre della TV è troppo turistica per voi, il Week-end, troppo minimal e il Rooftop restaurant del Reichstag, troppo burocratico, vi resta sempre il Solar , un buon compromesso tra design d’avanguardia e alta cucina internazionale (o meglio quella che in Germania chiamano Bürgerliche Küche). Lo abbiamo provato insieme ad un gruppo di amici provenienti da varie città europee. L’highlight della serata, oltre all’incredibile viaggio nell’ascensore di vetro degno dei racconti di Rohal Dahl, è stato il moquito rosa al succo di fragola. Il menu cambia quasi ogni giorno e si può consultare online: può darsi che quella sera siamo stati particolarmente sfortunati, ma francamente ci saremmo aspettati qualcosa di più originale del Boeuf Stroganoff e della Wiener Schnitzel (cotoletta alla milanese). Alla fine, superate le perplessità, abbiamo ordinato una coscia di faraona con puré tricolore su un letto di asparagi- ahimé fuori stagione!, un tofu marinato, accompagnato da un’insalata di riso e un carré di maiale adagiato su un letto (o meglio una coppia) di ravioli ripieni di ricotta e spinaci. Tutto sommato, bisogna ammettere che la qualità è superiore alla media. Ma i prezzi pure. Non per nulla il ristorante è frequentato soprattutto da un pubblico business e da turisti. Gli hipster berlinesi prediligono invece il bar vetrato al piano di sopra, che ospita tra l’altro videoartisti e DJ di fama internazionale. Almeno una volta è da vedere!
