The 2010 Pan African CollectionThe 2010 Pan African Collection

Berlin has caught the “Mal d’Afrique”. It’s not just the football world cup to darw attention to the dark continent.

Passing by Galeries Lafayette, a must see of the Friedrichstrasse shopping mile, we couldn’t help to notice the windows dedicated to the new generation of african designers, who mix up the archaic beauty of fabrics and traditional handycrafts with a very cosmopolitan and urban flair, a blow of fresh air and creative energy in the more and more breathless and self referential fashion system.

You don’t believe it? Take a look at the bags and ballerinas by Doreen Mashika, or the jewellery of the extraordinary Michael Kra. And what to say of the silk top by Eric Raisina? (worn by Erica). In our opinion he deserves an applause. The “Pan African Collection” has landed in Berlin for the celebration of 50 years of indipendence of 17 african states, thanks to the collaboration and efforts of Anna Getaneh, the project animator and founder of African Mosaique and Annette Braun EED consultant. The latter is an evangelic NGO engaged in the promotion of indigenous cultures and “made in Africa” as economic and social development factors. It is important to keep in mind that purchasing items of the Pan African collection helps to support the designers’ work as well as the work of all the artisans involved in the production process, an equal and sustainable one! O i bijoux dello straordinario Michael Kra.
