Fichu: the vintage fabric collectorFichu: the vintage fabric collector

From its outside you could never guess that the small shop of Oleg Ilyapour in Schöneberg “Fichu ( foulard)” generates an international pilgrimage of vintage fabrics worshippers. His stocks are counting thousands of fabric rolls of very first quality, but also trimmings and buttons impossible to find, like the original ones by Chanel from the thirties. These treasures have been piling up starting from 1928, when Ilyapur’s parents established their activity in Berlin. There is no piece of cloth that Ilyapur is not able to identify within a couple of minutes. Just ask! Chriestie’s sometimes does too. He has no real opening times. Fichu’s clientele mostly comes on appointment, but it is
not unlikely to jump into its bearded, unmistakably extravagant owner, while he is sipping his coffee at the neighbor Double Eye. “I change the shop window whenever I feel like it. I just do it for myself” explains Oleg, who won’t hear about trends and only trusts his own taste, championing a very personal style. His price level, between 80 and 500 euro a meter, makes it clear that he is not very keen on expanding the business. On the contrary, he finds it quite hard to separate from his fabrics. Rather than a merchant you would say he is a collector.
