Berlin’s Film Festival the “Teddy” celebrates Gay Films!!!!!

The other night I attended during the Berlin Film Festival Berlinale the Teddy award that celebrated their 25th anniversary!! for those who do not know the Teddy award is a film Prize in Berlin dedicated to the Best in International Gay Cinema .

I was pretty impressed at the distinguished guests who attended that included the Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit and his partner,The Green Party politician Renate Künast, and The South African Ambassador to Germany Lindiwe Mabuza and the amazing Photo artists Pierre et Gilles who designed this years campaign poster. The evening held at the old Tempelhof Airport which is an absolutelty wonderful achitectural jewel in Berlin and has recently been used for various venues one being the fashion trade show Bread and Butter.

The evening was special in that they honored a very unique individual an artist who has meant so much to South Africa both Gay and Straight Pieter Dirk Uys who is better known as Evita Bezuidenhout.
The artist has dedicated his life to the artistry of political satire and drag has taken his artistic combination to another level of art!!! both creatively and intellectually, his show performances cover so many topics such as racism, sexuality, aids, cultural identity, it is humorous and still mind provoking. This I think makes him quite unique in that for many who do not like touching very sensitive subjects Pieter Dirk Uys decided to touch topics that are not easy or comfortable.

The awards ceremony overall was quite fun not fabulous but good I must say that I had never seen Romy Haag I thought her performance was good amnd then the group The Hidden Cameras really impressed me with their soft ballad. Later that evening the after party was fun and kept many dancing by the truly fabulous DJ Gloria Viagra she looked glamorous in all her drag!!! and then I met Chantal,Chantals House of Shame one of Berlins Night Life stars who has a film out, that I have not seen but I have heard is fabulous so if you can get tickets to that film go and see the film about one of Berlin’s Party scene Gay icons she is a true eclectic individual that one can find only in Berlin.
Well the Berlinale and the glamour in Berlin

Continues.!!!!!!!!

Love Sean!!!!!
