The “Bottecelli” Exhibition seen through new eyes in Berlin

The Bottecelli exhibition recently opened at the Berlin “Gemaeldegalerie” which is located close to the Potsdamerplatz. This museum often is forgotten due to Berlin having so many other artistic venues, however this exhibit in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert museum is a pure artistic delight.

The exhibit is themed after the world renowned painting of Venus from Bottecelli. What makes this exhibition  unique is that the exhibition is based on the theme of the Venus painting however the exhibition takes us beyond just the renaissance era but art spanning several centuries. Here the museum presents various artist who have used the theme of Venus as an artistic motive. The show presents various artists over the centuries that included designs from the designers Dolce &Gabana, photos from Pierre & Gilles and paintings from the Pre Raphaelite artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The exhibition presents to the viewer how a subject matter over a large period has continuously influenced artist for centuries. The exhibition is informative, and entertaining.

The Bottecelli exhibit is one of those delightful and still informative exhibitions that inspire and make

one smile and yes this show is worth a visit.

C/O Berlin The Photography Museum in Berlin” A Creative Force”

This Museum / Gallery dedicated to Photography has been in Berlin for the past few years, but after having to relocate from Berlin’s Mitte district to Charlottenburg one was not sure if the museum would retain its cache’ well now residing in the Amerika Haus complex, which was in the past a cultural center dedicated to American History .C/O   took over the complex and refurbished this 60′s complex into a modern and progressive museum celebrating Photography.Currently they are presenting two exhibitions that touches one  both emotionally ,and creatively. The museum presently is showing to exhibitions which include work  from Sebatiano Salgado entitled Genesis and the second exhibit Distance and Desire with photos from both European and African  Photographers who depict various periods and styles that portray the different facets of the African people which included work from the talented photographer Seydou Keita. In the galleries main exhibition rooms were the photos of Genesis show, which presented photography that are both moving and breathtaking. The show includes landscape photos that cover diverse continents, wild animals and indigenous people   that range from Siberia to Brazil and beyond. The works are  moving and lend to the exhibition making a strong statement. This exhibit brings to ones attention the importance of both  nature and the  indigenous communities on our planet. I was delighted to  be at the  Museums new location and even more delighted to be  both creatively and intellectually inspired. I had a tea in their cafe, bought a few things in the book store and headed home and happy that i went to C/O Berlin a creative force in this city.

The Gallery Weekend Returns to Berlin!!!!

Berlin becomes annually a city that becomes a showcase for Artists from around the globe. to Presenting their works to a large audience of art enthusiasts and possible clients interested in purchasing some great works of art from many unknown but talented artists.

Last evening the Gallery Weekend started and I attended the Gallery Judin. Here the artist Phillip Fuerhofer presented his Painting/Lighting installations.Works of art that were both enticing, exciting and again made it apparent that Berlin is a great showcase for Artists and that is another reason why this city is so vibrant.Walk around the city get a map and experience the cities new talents. In all parts of the city whether Kreuzberg,Friedrichshain,Mitte and beyond you will find tons of good work and possibly something to take home for that empty wall.

The colorful Art Work of “Sister Corita”at Circle Culture Gallery

Boy Berlin can be so inspirational.Last night I attended an art opening with work from the artist Sister Corita Kent(1918-1986) .A true original ,this   catholic nun who later left the church, however continued to keep her social and spiritual beliefs in humanity. This artist who was influenced from  various segments of that era spanning from the political movement taking place in the 60s, to the musical scene from artists such as the Beatles , and quotations from the poet Rainer Maria Rilke.

This all influenced her work which included   texts, color, and bold graphics one definitely sees in  her work influences from that period  and from artists from that period such Lichtenstein and Warhol who come immediately   to mind. The gallery presents not only her works but also a video of her work and life that inspired and surrounded her work.

The gallery is worth a visit go be inspired and learn about a unique artist with a creative spiritual edge. For those who are interested in her work their is a book that can be purchased at the gallery.
