I had the opportunity to go with my dear pal Barbara to the German Fashion Industry Foundations Young European Fashion Award Ceremony,which was being held at the Bode Museum here in Berlin.The evening as always when fashion week comes to town,was interesting especially when you have both the young fashion savvy and established fashion insiders communicating.The evening was to award young students in both Europe and Germany who have chosen the fields of fashion .The winners of the evening were many.However what caught my eye were the dark and edgy pieces from the young talent that included Ulf Michael Brauner who won first prize with his sportive nomad pieces,it reminded me of Peter O’toole’s Laurence of Arabia with their slight leanings towards a caftan optic fluid and movement were a large message to this collection.The pieces with their dark hipster nomad looks from Lukas Fischer had me inspired in to trying his urban nomad look that i fell in love with,the collection included wide silhouettes that offer menswear another alternative. To top all the very dark and muted tones seen was the color palette from the European Fashion Award winner Julia Kleeblatt with her fun whimsical and vibrant pastel colorful pieces which included long jackets and bermuda shorts in soft however colorful tones for men.The colors were both modern with a sportive edge which i feel whether one likes her designs or not, her designs represent a new edge and direction for menswear .What the evening presented was the talent that is in Germany and it was an evening that reminds us that there is some hot talent here that needs to be nurtured.
